These are wonderful pictures ! It is so good to know that you are continuing to recuperate and recover . It’s Christmas Eve night here and before I go to bed may I wish you and all this amazing Substack community a Happy peaceful Christmas and a Healthy and hopeful New Year! Thank you for all you do Patti ! 🎄
Love Italy. My one of few regrets in a long life is that I never got to live there for an extended period. So glad you’re feeling better. Enjoy a holiday respite. You once wrote back to me that all would be well after hip surgery that scared me & you were right. Many weeks later Im doing well. Sending good thoughts your way.
Thank you for your loveliness as always Patti! I do hope you continue to recover and feel better. I am thinking of you and wishing for your inimitable vitality to grow and grow!
Oh, what beautiful photos! Thank you!! I, too, love that film (and also love The Gospel According to Matthew! The message of Jesus is there. I wish more people [politicians! Government officials! Heads up!] would read The Sermon on the Mount in Matthew). I hope you’re feeling much better. How I wish I could have arranged to go to your show in Brooklyn, either on the 30th or 31st, this year. Circumstances prevented that. But I was there - at venues with you on the 30th or 31st of several other years! And I always managed to be at the front. And I cherish the day that I looked up from
a book in Three Lives and Company, and there you were, right beside me, and I got to quietly chat with you. Have a beautiful, peaceful, serene Christmas. And rest until the shows. Warmest wishes to your family. And God bless you!
The words "hospital coffee"....🙁. I am glad you are home with good coffee and all that is dear. So wonderful to see the photos where history is still present, and that beautiful sky.
Thank you so much for sharing this These images are wonderfully profound and moving.
Thank you Patti, I stepped back into Pasolini's gospel. I took off my shoes.
just beautiful...
Thank you for the beautiful pictures.
The moon is shining brightly in the night sky. I hope the night is clear for you and you can enjoy the moon ‘s radiance.
Pasolini was a visionary and sometimes you are too
thank you patti....beautiful...may you continue to heal. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hello Patti.
I have just seen the new film by Wenders, Perfect Days.
Patti's album was used to great effect and your album cover was used in the end roll.
The way you shot the Japanese house is very Ozu-like, and the book he reads on the futon is an homage to Godard.
The building looked like a model room, even though it was about cleaning toilets. Avoid this film if you don't want to see a janitor.
Repetition and difference.
The Japanese obsession with filth is well portrayed.
Lou's Perfect Day is the most genius use of Wenders since Ry Cooder in Paris Texas. It was clear that the lead Japanese character was a music lover.
Media reviews of the film were mixed.
For me it's a very interesting film. Maybe Lou will be pleased.

I dreamed a dream of St. Francis who kneeled and prayed
For the birds and the beasts and all human kind
All through the night I felt drawn in by him
And I heard him call like a distant hymn
I retreated from the silence of my room
Stepping down the ancient stones washed with dawn
And entered the basilica that bore his name
Seeing his effigy I bowed my head
And my racing heart, I gave to him
I kneeled and prayed and sleep
That I could not find in the night
I found through him
I saw before me the world of his world
The bright fields, the birds in abundance
All of nature of which he sang singing of him
All the beauty that surrounded him as he walked (By Patti Smith "Constantine's Dream")
Thank you for your loveliness as always Patti! I do hope you continue to recover and feel better. I am thinking of you and wishing for your inimitable vitality to grow and grow!
Glad you are feeling better. Hope your recovery is swift and complete.
