I am fortunate to have the 1996 hardback first edition of The Coral Sea. You signed it for me in DC at a concert that year.

I treasure my books and especially my books by you. I wrap the dust jackets in clear film to protect them.

It is such a great gift to get to hear you read your books. I am so excited you will be reading this book now and we can follow along. Thanks!

I was deeply moved listening to you reading the opening to your book Patti…I could not have read that about my friend without breaking down 😢. You are such a strong woman, fierce and loyal. You face everything head on and give 110% in all that you do, you think constantly of others, and your family means the world to you. Your travels take you all over the world, how tiring must that be, but you do it because you want to meet people, never grumbling, to do what you do best. You have stood up for the injustices in the world from the beginning and never cowed down to anyone or anything. And yet you are one of the most modest, non demanding, Rock stars I know, who gets most pleasures from the simplest of things, you like to make a pot of purple sweet potatoes for God’s sakes 💝 … and you like to talk to us … how normal is that! Today is International Woman’s Day and I think you encompass every bit of what this day stands for, you’re amazing ⭐️

My son Gooski (Daniel), who resembles Robert, reminded me today to join you on Robert's passing day with you as you read from The Coral Sea.

He very much enjoys your casual talks for comfort and inspiration.

My son left Hawaii to rescue me. His reward is a contract working with alpacas and llamas for research and healing therapy. It was magical how it came to be.

Thank you, Patti and Robert ❤

Welcome back home.

Your reading was so powerful, that passage is so poignant. It always moves me deeply.

I am sorry that you lost your beloved Robert so terribly early.

Both Robert Mapplethorpe and Brice Marden have had huge influences on me as an artist for four decades on.

They are both have that Apollonian grace - a purity. They are both true artist-heroes.

PS I so look forward to the future readings from The Coral Sea.

Lovely to hear from you this morning. I’m glad you enjoyed Mexico and your travels. Beautiful to hear you read from The Coral Sea, l have that edition which l bought at one of your gigs in London many years ago. You speak of Robert with such love and your eyes light up and you momentarily seem to be back with him. Friendship like yours and Robert’s are a rare and special thing, you brought tears to my eyes ( in a good way).

I hope it stops raining soon. Much love from London 🙏

Hi Patti, lovely to hear from you again. Really looking forward to your reading of the Coral Sea. Double excitement this morning as I had an email to say that there is a new Murakami novel to be published in November. Jane x

I believe I had a Brothers word processor ...I shared one with my older sister. Never liked that contraption, it seemed to eat my words. I. haven't thought about it in decades, but when you said "a Brother" I was flooded with memories. ❤️ My sister passed several years ago and thinking about our spats over changing the ribbon on that machine - makes me giggle and reminds me of a simpler time. Sweet memories.

Looking forward to your reading.

I love the way you light up when you talk about Robert. I can see why he didn't want his illness to steal your joy.

Your joy sparks his joy.

I love the intimate moments with you. I hadn't heard of The Coral Sea. I look forward to hearing your read. The intro that you read was so touching. Amazed that you got through without tearing up. You're a beautiful soul who connected with other beautiful creative souls.

It's raining here in California. Been raining and storming for a week now. Loud thunder crashed down on us about an hour ago.

I had a friend here visiting. I shared your link with her. She is a writer of poetry and I know she will love to be a part of this community.

How lucky Robert was to have you as a friend.
