Thanks, Patti, for your broadcast news from abroad despite the continuous shelling of civilians in Gaza. Despite pleas from all corners of the globe for Peace interventions. Netanyahu continues to oversee worse treatment of Palestine than Jews in Warszawa received in 1939. Children under two years are not receiving necessary nutrition formulas. Drip feeding their children with some kind of sugary substance stop. This just in on Democracy Now Amy Goodman reporting from NYC.
We haven't met yet, but of course I feel like I already know you. I've read all your books, I saw you in concert at the ‘’Route du Rock’’ in Saint Malo (I'm from there) and your music has been with me since I was a teenager. Obviously I'm not the only one who feels this way…I wanted to invite you to hop in a cab and come and have a coffee in my and my husband Stephane's gallery while you're in Lisbon. Your time will be short between the opening of your exhibition at the CCB on March 22 and your performance on March 23. If you have a few minutes to visit the lisboete underground, this is where we live and have our gallery. I was a psychologist in France, but the road of the life took me to rock 'n' roll and photography, and I opened this ‘’Little Chelsea Experience’’ gallery in connection with the spirit of the Seventies in New York, those years of freedom and rebellion that will never return. It's a place for poetry, rock and humanist encounters. Here in Lisbon, the notion of time is not the same. Just read Fernando Pessoa and you'll understand why , and it's not just because of the light, time seems to have stopped in the seventies . The Marvila district is still an alternative place where artists can co exist. I'll be preparing an exhibition on punk, "Days of Punk", with photographs by Michael Grecco.
The inauguration is scheduled for Saturday March 23 (I won't be able to be at your performance for this reason, but I've offered my place to a friend). However, I'll be at the press conference on March 22 at 11 a.m. and I can't wait to discover this exhibition. Let me know if you have time to spend a few minutes at the gallery. My husband and I would be delighted to welcome you.
I was actually in Athens in June 2022 and narrowly missed your performance at the Acropolis. However, I was reminded to read Year of the Monkey and was glad for that trigger. Fun to find you here as what I loved most about Year of the Monkey was the pure simplicity and your coffee shop musings (and menu). I can say that I've never considered "coffee, cucumbers, prunes, beans and a roll of yellow grain" for breakfast or, ever, together.
what a great sign- "All we have is words. All we have is worlds" It feels like like a slice of reality disguised as a dream. mmm cold sliced cucumber with mint and olives- or did i imagine that last bit? I thought on hearing of the roll that it would be like a polenta roll but this roll pictured looks out anything i have had... maybe like it has little chamomile flowers emeshed in the dough. What kind of dough i wonder... flour or rice or amaranth or semolina? Sounds like something Anthony Bourdaine would have some wise insights on. Of course this is slightly different foods from toast with olive oil on bread, served with black coffee that you eat ritualistically at your NY spot. Every food is so magical and special when you are out of your routine- alas coffee is the root that grounds though, well bean but ya know. Ha, like i loved in year of the monkey you were looking for a cuppa joe on new years day and everything was closed- me and my honey said on reading it- damn she could have come to his Neary Lagoon apartment at that time were there, just 5 blocks from the boardwalk and the dream in suites ($$$) and we would've made you a kick ass cup. Also when they were open (not new years) there was an awesome little Middle Eastern place, right across from beach, near the bowling alley that has dynamite Turkish coffee. mmmm so good. Next time you there, in Santa Cruz, check there for your bean juice. Wowsa Soundwalk show- it sounds super fine! Doncha want to go back to live in Mexico though? Hell with NYC- CDMX calls to you, doncha hear it??? Course u gotta say "cafe americano" there or you will get nescafe... Trek on over to Cholula (near Puebla) and i will make you a kick ass cup too. I hope you can enjoy seeing some olive trees there in Greece and send some love (olivejuice) from the Greek olive trees to the Palestinian olive trees. Let there be a myorrhizal network connection to send nutrients, love and ceasefire...
