Your voice is so beautiful and deeply moving, the piano accompaniment is perfect. Thank you for sharing this with all of us, Patti. You are a gem 💎
Love is all we have left.
On books:
Have you heard of Barbara Kingsolver’s latest book, “Demon Copperhead”?
It’s a brilliant American story (has a Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain vibe) which takes place in Appalachia. It is 1200 pages long, and one gets to live inside the young boy character and feel his life and hardships deeply. I think you would like this read.
A beautiful song--thank you Patti and Tony! I saw U2 three times growing up (my first concert ever was their Achtung! tour--blew my mind) but drifted away from music generally in my mid-20s as my life turned in other directions. (I had once considered becoming a monk... but then life turned and turned and turned again!) Thank you for reconnecting me to their music; I will have to give a listen to the original.
I've read a few Hesse books but not 'Demian'--I've enjoyed all of his books tremendously though, 'Glass Bead Game' especially. That one's admittedly a bit of a slog for the first 60 pages or so, but once you get through, the rest is ... or was for me, soul-stirring.
Thanks again, Patti, and all the best to everyone! May you find warmth external and internal during these cold days.
Beautifully sung and accompanied by Tony’s piano playing elevates the song so nicely. Thanks for instilling some hope in this crazy but wonderful world we live in. Love Is really all we have left*~~**~*~***~~
I highly recommend, again, The Hawk's Done Gone by Mildred Haun, 1st Pub. 1940, Bobbs-Merrill. Powerful and beautiful, sometimes shocking "stories" that spring undiluted from her native Appalachian culture. Magical reality from an authentic, totally unique voice.
I had a lengthy wait in a doctor’s office today, and gladly filled the time reading “Just Kids”. I traveled around NYC with you today on your hunt for a job and lodging. The new arrival. You were brave! 💛
Sometimes I feel like love has left us...but we must carry on. All we need is love, right? We definitely need more love and no hate in this world. It hurts my heart to see all the hate - human against human. Thanks for being a bright light and for spreading joy and love. Sweet dreams.
thank you for the beautiful song ! congrats on getting through a tough section of the book...something to look forward to reading in the new year :-) i make a salad dressing using sumac along with zaatar, olive oil, lemon, garlic, salt and pepper. delicious
Thank you for this post on this day. I'm sitting here thinking about it being 10 years today since my mother died, and reminders of love are all around.
I understand the feeling. There was a time I felt like that even with loved ones around me; fortunately that was a long time ago now. These days, since I live halfway around the world from where I grew up, it's a different feeling... but still lonely in a way... I haven't celebrated Christmas with my family in 15 years (apart from a family Zoom call).

Beautiful song, thank you. And I agree that sumac is a delicious spice (and it's also supposed to be quite good for your health).
Beautiful
