I have never heard your version, so powerful and haunting. Seemed such a earthen communication bouncing from artist to listener to artist like all holy communions.
Love this. It’s visceral. And yet the imagery is ethereal at the same time. Knit together with the plangent uplifts in your voice; the banjo totally hits the heart. I really love the last few bars of the banjo. The notes are like little cries. Utterly beautiful xx
This is extraordinary. It’s amazing how many facets there are to it, the mood it creates and conveys. The layering, as Jamie says, of mountain music, southern Appalachian, English, and the sound of The Velvet Underground. Inflected with those, yet totally original. It makes me think you should do more film work. You transport one through tone, mood, and a compelling presence that acts as guide (we follow you) but never becomes so knowable that the mystery subsides
This is just beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I remember where I was when Cobain died like earlier generations remember where they were when John Kennedy died. The news ripped my guts out on the highway to Asheville. His music was King. I played your rendition over and over on high volume. It makes my skin split. You can’t fake love.
Muddy Waters and I
Were painting City Lights
Bookstore, when Cobain died
After watching I think I understand Kurts pain a little more. You captured something visceral. Very moving. Amazing Grace 🕊️
I've always loved this cover. Thank you Patti.
I love everything about this, everything.
