Thank you Patti! I think you are a boxer, fighting the conventions or standards imposed on society or women or men . . . .not giving up on yourself as an artist ever!
Recently I found a book that I have had for about fifteen years maybe, but somehow I hadn't seen it for about ten years. There is an interview with you in there, it says it's from 1977, and that you were in bed in the Chelsea Hotel at the time. I really like this first paragraph: In 1975, at the Other End, when we played there, right after me an my band got signed, Bob came. I knew he was there — nobody had to tell me. I felt something. The neat thing about him is that his energy is a real thing. I don't expect anything out of anybody when I meet them, all I expect is that... if I've really admired them... that they exude a certain kind of energy that's really inspiring. And he had a lot of it. He's really an amazing storehouse — he's so full of grace, speed and urgency, it's a real thing.
I had the chance to meet Patti Smith's talent as a writer when I read "Just Kids", book which I received as part of a reading club in Brazil. I read it in a week, and got fascinated by the marvelous way those two kids lives (one being her) was described... since then, I feel like I were their closest friend and could be part of some conversation supporting or criticizing their attitudes here and there. For my surprise, when I made a quick search on her songs in Spotify, I also became a big fan... of course that I knew some songs but without linking it to her name. I was born in 77, when she was already having the greatest moments of her musical career. Today, after reading this passage about her chat with Bob Dylan, again I was totally immersed on it, and again I had the sensation of being in that same street, listening to the conversation they had. Thanks Patti. You are really gifted... talented.... and please come back to visit us in Rio de Janeiro when these crazy times are over.
