Thank you Patti for attending to the small every day things that have meaning in their simple existence. I loved seeing your draft of this post, a cartridge pen, such a fine instrument. Thank you for writing and wringing out your socks. You make me smile.

unluckily I found the post only now, Don t know why it skipped my ordinary mail, while reading I have realized it s an intense piece of Life contained in very humble objects which (thinking of my always present slave sandals in Summer ,black boots in Autumn , bic pen blue and beloved pics inside a little book pf poetry) ) are your companions in travelling as Whitman writes : Still here I carry my old delicious burderns, "- so P atty, what you are giving us in few words is a very lyrical moment of personal life, and above all...again! you show you 've got much to write ,to offer people, and you need only few precise but necessary objects for your art..WHAT ELSE'?HUG ALE

Thanks once again, Patti. 🎈 Your 'Object Lesson' brought to mind "Stone" by Charles Simic.

Stone

Go inside a stone

That would be my way.

Let somebody else become a dove

Or gnash with a tiger’s tooth.

I am happy to be a stone.

From the outside the stone is a riddle:

No one knows how to answer it.

Yet within, it must be cool and quiet

Even though a cow steps on it full weight,

Even though a child throws it in a river,

The stone sinks, slow, unperturbed

To the river bottom

Where the fishes come to knock on it

And listen.

I have seen sparks fly out

When two stones are rubbed.

So perhaps it is not dark inside after all;

Perhaps there is a moon shining

From somewhere, as though behind a hill—

Just enough light to make out

The strange writings, the star charts

On the inner walls.

Reading your pages is like meeting good friends again / in Germany we call this “Stamm Tisch” which means something like “root table” -> people use to meet a circle of friends regularly, same day same hour again and again. The pub put even a tree sign on the table which is regularly reserved for this. For ever. The week maybe have been sad, lot of work, no sun. But the day of Stammtisch arrives. And all becomes cosy and warm.

This substack stuff is my new Stammtisch .

Ciao, Patti
