Thanks so much for the view of Naples and the gulls and your beautiful words and the unbelievable video of Maria. I hadn't seen that before and it absolutely floored me, giving chills where there had been no chills before. You're such a gift in these trying times.
thank you for this and for the references to Maria Callas... whatever the technical accomplishment or not.! ..her voice certainly transport us to somewhere 'else' hard to define I think...
I love Naples! And have also stayed in that hotel. :-)
Try to make it to Pompei if you haven't been there- and the trip up to the top of Vesuvius is incredible- but go with a trusted driver. Can be tricky. Thank you for your travelogue- beautiful!
I'm so pleased that you love Naples, Patti - you can hear the joy in your voice! I've only been once, but it had an immense impact on my entire being. I had the best meal of my life (thus far) right along the water, a simple dish of spaghetti and clams, spaghetti alle vongole, a centuries old recipe that held history in every single morsel.
My dad loved Maria Callas -- the memories of the turntable scratches on a well-worn album and the guttural pain I imagined when she was forsaken by Onassis--all contributed to her ethereal magic.
What a lovely view and yes you captured the gulls perfectly. I wish a Happy Birthday to Maria and hope you enjoyed your small gig in the church, it’s always special to see you in a church. Safe travels Patti. Much love from London 🙏
Callas singing Vissi d’Arte always undoes me.
