My dad had a lot of stories which I never got tired of, though my step-mother heard them more often than I did. Stories are always the stories of a person's life.
Wow l loved the three legged dog story. When things like that happen l find it’s just magical. It belongs next to the girl as mad as birds! Those words will stay with me.
I come to this post late as l have been very busy doing nice things like walking in nature and seeing all the new wildlife and the moon was magnificent. Thank you for your lovely visit you looked happy and well. Lots of love from London 🙏
Love the way you share poems with us! and love your life stories! You have experienced some extraordinary things! I could tell it was a full moon on Thursday because the students at my school were 'off the chart'!! Safe and peaceful Memorial Day!
This is one of my favorite posts of yours....your books, so hard to cull; the young violinist; more on life @ The Chelsea; Dylan Thomas poems ( oh, gosh, such great lines); meeting the 3-legged dog from your dream...just Loved it All....and finding myself smiling at your mother continuing her story, reliving it, I'm sure.
Dear Patti, it was so nice to hear you speak of your mother’s family connection to Wales, and of your connection too. Your Celtic origins.
I am travelling to Wales in July, so will see how close Laugharne is to where I’m going.
And I loved hearing about your three-legged dog dream and then the real-life visitation with the priest, and that you were entrusted to look after the dog, is such a lovely unexpected twist in the story.
I do know that black dogs- in dreams, or reality, are symbolic of protection, which is why I thought it lovely you were also given the role of protected and protector.
Tonight, the Moon is veiled in her mystery, even though no longer completely full…as it was when in the sign of Sagittarius. There is some aspect of the silvery light of the Moon, especially when a full moon, which makes it impossible for me to sleep. Your photograph was like a “spirit capture” image. I often think of the song Deep Purple when I can’t sleep at the full moon.. as a child this song fascinated me… that line “ when the deep purple falls over sleepy garden walls….” and it’s such a catchy tune and interesting arrangement- I still love the mystery of the moonlit indigo shadows.
My replies are a bit out of sync, however I wanted to thank you properly for giving us the opportunity to share about all things Bob Dylan. All the comments are wonderful, and evoking of so many songs, and time passages. And great to read your responses to the comments, and what those particular songs mean to you.
Patti your visits , readings and stories are a complete joy ! I feel as if I am on the outside looking in at all the knowledgeable and fascinating comments from this fabulous community ! My head is not in a good place at the moment having just today tested positive for Covid ! However , family, good books, music and all here will help get me through ! Thank you ! 💙
Dylan Thomas, Wales and I especially loved the story about the dream of the 3 legged dog coming true. ( For what it's worth whenever I watch one of your posts - Wyatt - our lanky, black Lab mix curls up on the couch, next to me - he knows the sound of your voice. I like to think he's a fan of poetry).
Thanks for this post - happy Flower Moon (aka the Vesak or Hare Moon) and happy Bob Dylan Day!
I am off to read that long legged poem to Wyatt the long legged dog.
Want al laugh? It wasn't until I listened to this delightful visit, a day late, that i, too, now know it is Memorial Day Weekend!
Enthralled by other realities, I guess.
Thank you, I so enjoyed this one;; the sky and the thunder and lightening (here in Ptown too!), to, long-legged hearts and mad as birds and three legged dogs and Merlins forest...simply sublime! xx
I was in Laugharne the evening you performed in the town hall. You signed a book for me and said you needed your glasses to be able to write and you giggled at that and so did I. The date by your signature is March 3rd 2008, so it was 16 years ago.
Your hair wasnt grey then and neither was mine.
It was a magical performance for me as it seemed very intimate, although not as intimate as your performance in the boathouse would have been with only 25 lucky audience members. (I wasnt lucky enough to secure a ticket for that)
If you ever visit Wales again please scedule in a performance - there are many of us here who would dearly love to see and hear you again.
So engaging his lines of thought.. thankyou for jump starting an adventure long overdue. With love, Bruce, dweller at the Thicket..
My my! Aren't we the lucky ones to be able to hear these stories. Thank you, Patti!
Never stop telling your stories. They are fascinating. I want to know more about Merkin’s forest.
My dad had a lot of stories which I never got tired of, though my step-mother heard them more often than I did. Stories are always the stories of a person's life.
Dear Patti. I didn't know Dylan Thomas. I do now. thank you. :)
So beautiful…. Just thank you 🙏 again …

contrar...your few words of Milton reverberate in my awe
so much love in your talking of patrick..i'm an artist educator and give confidence in them like you with patrick♥️
Hello.I’m grateful to Patti for introducing me to Dylan Thomas and Patrick Wolf.
I found a detailed article about Patti and Patrick's meeting.
“How We Met Patrick Wolf & Patti Smith
People might think it's a maternal connection, but I see it in a more romantic way.”
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/how-we-met-patrick-wolf-amp-patti-smith-2307902.html
I need to emulate Patti's act of sowing the seeds and saplings of words. Like Johnny Appleseed.
