I love how many people here wrote “It was beautiful.” I say, write, think it a lot and always with “Wing” in mind but usually no one who hears or reads the words knows that it sounds in my head like your words in Wing. But this was awesome: a chorus of people writing “It was beautiful,” all echoing your song.

It was beautiful.

Also beautiful is the photograph of you, Patti. There are so many great photos of you but this one might be among my favorites. It looks as if the tree is growing around you or you are growing from the tree. However you put it, you and the tree are one. Amazing photo.

The exchange between you and the boy, your kiss on Genet’s gravestone, also beautiful.

There are so many ways that Genet resonates for me. For one, he wrote vividly -- as few do or can -- about criminality. I was deeply impacted by his work with Sartre and Foucault protesting police brutality of Algerians, and my friend, the late Jacques Derrida, in his book, “Glas” follows the structure of Genet’s essay “What Remains of a Rembrandt Torn into Four Equal Pieces and Flushed Down the Toilet", in combining a reading of Hegel’s and Genet’s writing. It is not an easy book, but it is fascinating.

It’s moving to reflect on the development of this group because with time, people have become more comfortable and it feels like a kind of home. The members of this community are open, vulnerable, inspired, alive.

Thanks to everyone for sharing this experience.

As ever,

Robin

Beautiful and so moving....the simple voice / guitar combination makes me feel like I’m there at the performance. Clean / Clear sound and message. I remember the Cine Alcraz in Tangier, i wandered those streets with a camera, eating dried fruit looking for the magic. I found the Matisse studio and a few others. Thank you...Patti.

It was beautiful . . . the film footage together with Wing . . . such a touching remembrance. I am inspired to find and read that work by Genet, as well as to revisit M Train.

Thank you, Patti, and enjoy your time in Berlin!

Dear Patti I saw this little doco at Melbourne Film Festival back when. I always remember your comment on how happy you believed Jean Genet would be to have a little one play on his grave. I sometimes reflect on this thanks for all the reverence Patricia

Awe inspiring. I just pulled up the recorded version of Wing from music inspired by the film Roma. This film gives understanding of the lyrics. Thank you Patti (oh! nice to see Lenny in that clip!)

Lovely live music, images and words. Thank you, Patti. I had the privilege to play Irma in The Balcony, Solange in The Maids and Bobo in The Blacks. Genet's words allow one to soar and battle and embody revolutions.
