Dearest Patti and everyone gathered around her table as I type :) Stay healthy and do good work! It`s always great to see you, it feels so easy, and it feels personal. Sequoia trees , Atlantic Ocean between Miami and East Sussex. Perhaps Jessie could turn this message into another print for the sweatshirts: Stay healthy and do good work . This is such a nice place to pop in and hang out for a bit. Enjoy your walk on the beach in the morning tomorrow :) xo
I was only 16 months old when Kennedy was assassinated, the event left a vague, dream-like impression, the funeral on television viewed from my playpen, the emotions of my family, especially my siblings who were 11 and 7 at the time, and the image of the riderless horse named Black Jack stayed with me. (I loved horses even back then.) The Florida light looks beautiful and I'm glad you're getting your feet wet in the ocean on the beach. We had lots of snow yesterday from the Nor'Easter, about 4-6 inches of heavy wet snow and we lost power for about 8 hours because of a tree falling on the lines in our area. We had a few branches come down in our yard, just deadwood as expected, nothing major. I'm grateful for our woodstove to keep us warm and to cook food and make a pot of tea. It was messy out there, but down the road and closer to the city it was only rain, so it was only us in the higher elevations that got the snow. It's foggy and rainy this morning so it's all melting away. Although we never had a drought issue here, the parts of NYS that are in a drought received some much needed rain or snow. Books have always been precious to me. My sister and my father would read to me a lot when I was little. I spent lots of time in the library, and bookstores or any corner of the department stores that had books (or records!) I worked in a bookstore before I moved on to work in a museum (which also had a library.) I have quite a collection, my bookshelves are overflowing. I have always aspired to write my own books and enjoy writing my work very much, and meshing the written word with my art is another joy. It is always so nice to hear from you, Patti, I hope your event was fun and I'm sure your speech went well. Enjoy your day!
Dear Patti, thank you for stopping by. It is always a pleasure hearing from you. This time with magical light in your hotel room. Enjoy the event, the ocean and palm trees. I will now have coffee and read a bit. Books are my life too. I love reading and writing, also poetry. I always have a small notebook and a pen with me. Thank you for all your inspiration. Sending much love
What a lovely description about you loving books. Since l first learnt to read l have been exactly the same. They are the opening to so many different places, people and adventures and l’m never without one. I was a young teenager when the assassination happened, the shock reverberated all over the world including the UK. I think all of young people thought here was someone who understood us and suddenly he was gone. Thank you dear Patti. Much love from London 🙏
I just saw you in Kingston NY…So wonderful to see you and your friends! I cried a little because I remembered the sixth grade girl that I was when I first read your writing (1976?)…and heard your music. You taught me so much. Again I will follow your lead on how to behave in the face of grief. Grateful to have you in my life again…Be well!
Thank you for all of your books! I can feel the love you put in them when I read them. I look forward to your next one! I am enjoying "before EASTER after" so much.
I was 11 years old and in school in Bedford, Texas between Ft.Worth and Dallas during the Kennedy assassination. We were sent home from school early. I remember the sadness but also the fear because no one knew what was happening. It was a somber day that will never be forgotten.
"Let us welcome controversial books and controversial authors."
It really struck me, he was so curious, forward-thinking and fearlessly optimistic.
I was born 2 years after his death, but the love and veneration for Jack and Bobby left a palpable, permanent energy in our house. My mom and dad and my sister who was 16 when he was killed instilled a lifelong appreciation for the Kennedy brothers.
Congratulations on the medal and nearing the finish line with the manuscript.
Good night and say hello to the palm trees for me ( coming from Michigan - they always look incredibly exotic to me).
I remember that day really well also. I was at college and it was devastating. I think I recognized right way that it was an assassination because of politics -and here we are again in an even more dangerous “on the brink of nuclear war” moment and there appears to be no one to pick up the phone and negotiate for peace.
Thank you Patti ❤️

Thanks for this message, dear Patti.
I stumbled across this qoute today from JFK -

I was only six on 11/22/63 - but remember vividly - at least my parents’s reaction….and my first child (son) was born 29 years ago today.
It is a date that is both tragic and magic for me.
