Thank you so much for sending this from Miami! I'm late catching up as most days... it's as always so good to watch your video messages or read your posts!
I am on a one week holiday in Berlin with some added duties for one and a half days (busy but good sort of busy!) and staying with my sister which is always good.
On Friday I went to St Marien & St Nikolai cemetery for a bit of quiet in the business. I forgot that it closes earlier every month into the winter so in December now it's already closing at 4pm... i had a good 10 minutes only but it was lovely as always. The little statue is already in in a case for winter. There will be a Christmas arts market next weekend in the building in the cemetery that used to be the cemetery warden's house (Verwalterhaus Berlin / Kulturkapellen runs it now and they have small art exhibitions in there too). I'll be leaving before then.
It's medium cold here (my expression...) at the moment but often feels colder than the actual temperatures. We had one day with beautiful winter sun and blue clear skies and otherwise mostly typical Berlin winter skies. I've lit two advent candles this morning so it's more cosy.
All the best to everyone and I hope everyone gets enough quiet time and rest too before the holidays!!
There were human rights for USA citizens maybe, but the external policy ok Kennedy caused a lot of sufferin mostly in Central and South America, he did not care about the human rights of that people, but American citizens including Patti seem not to care about this
What a wonderful warm check in from you, Patti. Thank you! As you were speaking about Jacqueline Kennedy, I thought of one more of her passions--books! She was an editor at Doubleday, and loved and created books just like you (and me)!
Grew up with sequoias and redwoods…west coast girl, living amongst the ohias and koas now, and palm trees! Tropics. Time marches on…so grateful for your love of books! The ones you hold in hand. Been shamed too many times into believing I should limit my books, but Patti, you love books! And hold them so we can see and treasure like I do. I’m sticking around for December as well, my birthday just a few days before yours. So many similarities is Capricorns. Love it. Appreciate your love of Kennedys, the transformation of America into a more aware of the arts sort of place. Me too. Those days were the beginnings of waking up, realizing the possibilities. I treasure them and all who made our world. Thank you Patti. ♥️
So much can be said in just a matter of minutes from the simple and everyday (breakfast, walks on the beach) to the momentmous and earth-shifting (the assassination of a significant cultural figure) that it can be near impossible to follow all the thought-threads that are evoked in those few minutes. So just a couple ...
As always, thanks for sharing, Patti. You seem in good spirits as usual but even more so? Perhaps it's the Florida sunsihine or your Fred Sonic Smith t-shirt. Whatever it is, thanks for sharing it with us. I'm looking forward to hearing the bit of the speech you shared in your following post. (Catching up!)
I grew up in Christian, Republican household--although my mom has always been more pragmatic and open-minded when it comes to social issues--and I grew up in the Reagan years, so Kennedy himself never loomed as large in my upbringing though his assassination certainly did as I grew up in Dallas. I don't know that the world as it exists now could ever again experience the same shared sense of grief that his passing evoked.
Too much to say ... or write, especially about books. I only hope that if ever get something published that it's worthy of the time, effort and resources required.
Finally, is that a collection of stories by Yukio Mishima you're reading? A fascinating character in his own right, I was reading his Sea of Fertility tetrology at a pivotal time in my life. I hope to reread it again. Bowie's song 'Heat' was inspired by the first book in particular, Spring Snow.
Love your accounts of your days: Breakfast, a walk, work. Reminds me of: Flaubert: “Be regular and orderly in your life, like a bourgeois, so that you may be violent and original in your work.”
Patti's Sequoias have sparked the imagination. We're hanging in, Brent, thank you. Two old folks prepping the holler for winter as best we can. It helps to have tasks that need to be done - just doing what's in front of us. Hoping you and your family are as well as can be.
Please don’t worry about the Sequoias appearing on your computer screen. As a viewer, I can’t see them. I only see you. I’m so glad to get your greeting when you check in with us. As always your presence is a comfort and a joy. Congratulations on the nearly finished manuscript. Enjoy the evening Gala and break a leg with your keynote speech.
Dearest Patti and everyone gathered around her table as I type :) Stay healthy and do good work! It`s always great to see you, it feels so easy, and it feels personal. Sequoia trees , Atlantic Ocean between Miami and East Sussex. Perhaps Jessie could turn this message into another print for the sweatshirts: Stay healthy and do good work . This is such a nice place to pop in and hang out for a bit. Enjoy your walk on the beach in the morning tomorrow :) xo
I was only 16 months old when Kennedy was assassinated, the event left a vague, dream-like impression, the funeral on television viewed from my playpen, the emotions of my family, especially my siblings who were 11 and 7 at the time, and the image of the riderless horse named Black Jack stayed with me. (I loved horses even back then.) The Florida light looks beautiful and I'm glad you're getting your feet wet in the ocean on the beach. We had lots of snow yesterday from the Nor'Easter, about 4-6 inches of heavy wet snow and we lost power for about 8 hours because of a tree falling on the lines in our area. We had a few branches come down in our yard, just deadwood as expected, nothing major. I'm grateful for our woodstove to keep us warm and to cook food and make a pot of tea. It was messy out there, but down the road and closer to the city it was only rain, so it was only us in the higher elevations that got the snow. It's foggy and rainy this morning so it's all melting away. Although we never had a drought issue here, the parts of NYS that are in a drought received some much needed rain or snow. Books have always been precious to me. My sister and my father would read to me a lot when I was little. I spent lots of time in the library, and bookstores or any corner of the department stores that had books (or records!) I worked in a bookstore before I moved on to work in a museum (which also had a library.) I have quite a collection, my bookshelves are overflowing. I have always aspired to write my own books and enjoy writing my work very much, and meshing the written word with my art is another joy. It is always so nice to hear from you, Patti, I hope your event was fun and I'm sure your speech went well. Enjoy your day!

Thank you Patti. Listening to you makes for a wonderful start to my day. Peace & Love

To watch frequently the recorded minutes of your intimacy is warm and healthy for my soul. Thank you. Stay healthy too.
Hello 👋
"Return of the mystery trees" sounds like a book title. Thanks Patti. Another post to appreciate.
Wishing you safe travels home and a well-deserved break from toing and froing. As always, please mind how you go.
Hehe, I was thinking "Beautiful Invaders" myself, but that conjures up a very different kind of story potentially. Hope you and yours are well, Suzi.

I'd read that book. Hope all is well, Suzi.
Jim, thanks for the hope ... and "well" is relative, eh? How bout you write a story with
that title? I'd read that. Wishing that life treats you kindly. Take care of yourself and mind how you go.
I also had a blueberry muffin 😋
Keep up the reading. Books are my best friends
