Icelandic images soothe me. I’ve been and found it extraordinary. It will no sooner leave my imagination than Uluru, which reminds me of the beauty and mystery of Dreamtime. I’d love it if France (as a whole) was impatient with my absence. Too many years have passed since my last visit and there is so much more to experience. Seagulls however, will draw me outside in a few moments. I live on an island, which is largely theirs. The way they communicate with one another brings me joy. So, out into the afternoon I go!
I just found this, and was going to say I don’t know how I missed it, but looking at the day, I see that it arrived when my beloved surrogate mother, Helen, was so close to dying. It feels as if this was set aside to find when I needed it, and this morning I did.
Thank you so much for this, Patti. I also did not know that Thomas Paine wrote poetry and appreciate your finding and sharing this for Earth Day.
Your photographs are amazing. I agree that the trees in the foreground of the photo of Uluru look like congregants in the thrall of nature, as Angela so beautifully put it. I love all the photos you’ve shared, especially the one from Rockaway beach, a canopy of gulls, in an arch above the sea.
I’m always grateful for what you bring here, Patti, and for the chorus of voices in this community. I hope I express that regularly and at least half adequately. But over this week especially, which has been personally painful and globally harrowing, this has been a rescuing space, a place to come for kindness, beauty, wisdom, camaraderie. I don’t know how I would do without all of you.
Patti, you reach so many people with these much treasured musings. I personally feel an opening, an enrichment and even sometimes a vision. Cannot thank you enough.

The photos with this little Earth Day poem and thoughts are spectacular. Maybe a book of photos like these in the future?
