This is dear and near to my heart. I felt alot of emotion. All good. At one time, I thought the whole world lived like us. I wasnt aware thaqt women were considered second class citizenss or so shamefully. And the violence, just makes me appreciate and honor the country, America. "Oh, I love to live in America, I want to live in America". Happy 4th everyone
Thanks Patti..during this holiday so many people act like we are democratic perfection, where the real history is that this is a successive approximation of democracy, with a huge backslide over the past few years. Pushing for change does not mean we hate America...quite the opposite! Those who truly love this country are those who can imagine what it could be, while at the same time, like Kim Vandergriff, appreciating the beauty and wonder of this place.
From one of those living off of the black tarp of US 285 outside of Santa Fe, part of being American is the appreciation of the Natives who lived here long before us cowpokes and still bring a peaceful sense of culture and wonderment of the surrounding nature from junipers and piñons to the mysteries of the universe revealed every night as darkness opens the curtain.
Thanks, Patti. I found myself asking this same question this morning in anticipation of the holiday and arrived at the same conclusion as you, though not quite so poetically!
What i meant was i came fully into my knowingness of how i was American..i have always lived a life of no borders..referring to my self as Miss Local Universe..when i decided to move to france i clearly saw in myself my american ways!
The french are very very fond of America and americans and those that were here, the oldest generation, remember well and fondly the help of American soldiers they did not forget...
Thank you Patti. I love the twang in the way you spoke this. I’m grateful for freedoms I have today. I’m grateful for you and your work that makes me smile and think about things on a deeper level.
"The right to write the wrong words".... that's definitely it
