Thank you Patti! You and Sam look so great! Happy and free, I love your haircut! You remind me of my sister Diane, who took me to CBGB's and Max's Kansas City. I remember New York City in the 70's gritty and inviting. You make me smile and am so grateful to be a part of this with you. And I'm grateful for the work of Sam Shepard, Bob Dylan and you.
This year I have had 2 Bob dreams. In the first, Bob and I were sitting on a park bench in a park. We were chatting as friends do. I asked him a personal question - not sure what. He stood up and walked away. I sat there, expecting him to return...but he didn't.
In the more recent dream, Bob and I were riding a bike. I was pedaling in front. It was older Bob with the pencil thin moustache. we were riding into the mountains on a dusty road. As we climbed higher, there were houses built into the rocks. We came around a corner with a deep crevice on the side. I stopped and told Bob to get off carefully so we don't fall. It looked like some ancient small town built into the dusty rocks. No trees or plants.
I really like these photographs and your descriptions here. '.. seeing me and Sam with the fellow who once invaded our dreams, along with a few dogs, on a sultry morning at the Chelsea Hotel.. ' ..I liked that. The dream of dogs that you describe here seems like a merging of If Dogs Run Free, Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again, and Motorpyscho Nightmare ..! .. maybe, haha.. On a sultry new morning. I really like the song Brownsville Girl.. and the earlier versions I think, Danville Girl .. was it called, is it called. I know I have listened to some different versions. One version I listened to for about three hours once on repeat whilst painting I recall. The scene from Renaldo and Clara where the group are dancing around in circle, chanting, with Allen Ginsberg seeming to be really having a good time, just came to my mind.. Bob has some kind of trumpet, and they all go dancing off down towards the lake — I think the sun was setting. A while back I came across this interview with Bob, before a show, in 1978. Early on in the interview, Bob is asking the interviewer has he brought the copy of his review of the film Renaldo and Clara.. It's a really great interview I think. I uploaded the audio here a while back (It's a bit quiet, but through headphones it's all quite clear) .. https://youtu.be/uXGhEUg0zOQ
Patti, in Bob's Month I saw on TV a documentary exploring "home", as a feeling. Beautifully filmed. A pause for the heart. In Abchazia, come to a standstill after war. I have only the trailer for you, but here it is: https://iffr.com/nl/2020/films/little-man-time-and-the-troubadour.
You and Sam Shepard " skirting the edges of the spinifex- starred plains." This beautiful imagery has stayed with me since reading Year of the Monkey. Would love to hear more about you and Sam! Thanks Patti. X

I love these stories! And those photos... oh my. They are wonderful. One photo, three geniuses.

I love how your dreams almost crossed over.
My Grandad didn’t like my Dad listening to Bob Dylan. He sent my Dad to sleep in the caravan once over a row about, The Times They Are A- Changin’
My Dad made sure I listened to Bob. He often used to sit me down and get his 60’s vinyl’s out. He used to sing along with them. I knew he loved it.
I loved it too. I loved how the songs were like little films telling a story.
Thank you so much Patti for sharing your beautiful stories, poems and dreams.
❤️ Xx

If dogs run free, then why not we
Across the swooping plain?
My ears hear a symphony
Of two mules, trains and rain
The best is always yet to come
That’s what they explain to me
Just do your thing, you’ll be king
If dogs run free ..
lovely poem, be king! i write also! https://tumbleweedwords.substack.com/p/a-may-day-poem
