Thank you for taking the time to chat, I find it so grounding and inspiring. I love hearing about the little objects on your desk and their story. Was thinking Batty may make an appearance today. I have had a book on the shelf that I bought second hand from eBay a while ago called What Painting Is by James Elkins and picked it up last night to finally start reading. To my surprise there is a stamp on the underneath bottom which says Glen Cove Public Library, New York and am wondering about its journey to me here in Suffolk, uk! I have emailed them to see if they want it back. I think The Woman in the Dunes will be my next read. Thank you again.

The jacket story is Priceless! I can see the two of you hanging out in stores, trying on clothes and making each other laugh. I would love to have a sister to be “cool” with. BTW: How can Patti Smith not be cool!

PS: I spent my first 13 years in south Jersey (Willingboro, formerly Levittown. Born in Philly in 1960 because apparently there wasn’t a hospital any closer). Anyway I have fond memories of that place because it was very diverse and we had a beautiful woods behind our house that was my secret paradise).

Been listening and loving your music since the ‘70’s. Love your books too. Thanks for all you do!

I walked up the spiral staircase to the attic at Fruitlands, the transcendentalist’s experimental community where Louisa May Alcott wrote Little Women... in that very attic! The dark thick wooden spiral staircase was thrilling enough, but then you pop up into - her life! You could just feel the girls up there, sleeping writing reading, trying to stay warm. I bought a little book there that she wrote when she was young, “Transcendental Wild Oats” — a peephole into the transcendentalist movement, their pioneering austerity, her stoic odd family members — their day to day work and interchanges, her precious youth!

I'm going through a similar phase. I only recently read “One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest”, even if I watched the film years ago. I remember I liked “Death in Venice” when I read it, it was actually purchased in Venice during the film festival. 😀

Thank you for lighting up my day, Patti! My heart just beamed as you shared your cherished fork! I still have an engraved baby spoon and keep it displayed. What is it about these pieces that just ooze happiness?! Maybe it's because we are reminded that, from our beginnings, we were so welcomed and loved. Who doesn't like to be reminded of that! Well, anyway, LOVE YOU for sharing everything you do with all of us!

Many blessings and MUCH LOVE,

~Wendy💜

I’m sure you are familiar with the artist Giorgio Morandi’s exquisite still life paintings. Your objects shown today—the gold pitcher, green inkwell, portrait of Rimbaud in the beautiful frame, and your engraved baby fork—made me think of him as I imagined a painting by him of your precious keepsakes.

We are not machines. Just as the earth needs seasons, we need periods of rest and renewal. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Hello Patti, yes the same here I never read the introductions or prefaces to a book until I read the book. Kind of related, but I don't really like seeing or hearing reviews of anything before I have seen or heard it myself. Saying that, I seem to like hearing you talk about books and the like before I have read them .. Either way, thank you for your video here. Best wishes, nm.

This makes me feel much better about the many books I’ve struggled through 😂. This is such a welcome break from the noise online. I should get back to my own writing but this is top notch procrastination. Thanks, Patti! 🐈‍⬛🖤🎸
