I thought nothing would ever top your cover of "Gloria," but I may need to rethink that.

I have finally listened to Patti’s cover of “After the Goldrush.” I will explain the circumstances under which I listened when I have more strength. For now, I just wanted to say thank you, Patti. I have never heard such a beautiful thing.

So it’s not a mystery, I’ll say that I had to have a procedure that involved a great deal of pain, and to ease it, I was given Ketamine. For anyone who doesn’t know what that entails, one is awake, though there is some sense of sedation. I have had it before and always during it listen to Neil Young, Patti, or Helen Vendler (lecturing on poetry). Today I listened to Patti covering “After the Goldrush” in a loop (for 90 minutes). It was among the most moving, healing, safekeeping experiences I have ever had.

Patti, I don’t have the words to thank you. To everyone here who might read this, I offer my gratitude for this holding, healing, thinking space.

I wish everyone peace and everyone no pain.

As ever,

Robin

Robin, it sounds like you were in a lot of pain. I wish you well.

“If I can stop one heart from breaking”

By: Emily Dickinson

If I can stop one heart from breaking,

I shall not live in vain;

If I can ease one life the aching,

Or cool one pain,

Or help one fainting robin

Unto his nest again,

I shall not live in vain.

Patti, your performance was incredible at Madison Square Garden that night. I am so grateful that I was able to be there for this magical night with you and the National.

I'm so glad that you trusted your instincts and played After the Gold Rush in the simplest form. We live in such a loud, flashing, chaotic and immediate world... so for folks to stop and listen to the message of this legendary song, sung by a legend, in a global time of need, is one of the greatest gifts bestowed.

Just hearing this. ATGR has always been a song that transcends time. It still holds as powerful today as it did upon release. Trust your coffee was good. I’m going to listen to your cover now, before I fall into slumber. Im up far too late here. Nyc is a gogo! Hope to catch up in the fall. Love Roberts Lily 😴

I’m back to say hello, and send my best wishes to everyone. I still have not been able to listen to Patti singing “After the Gold Rush.” I can’t think of a more powerful combination for me and I am using it both to help me accrue stamina for what has been an ordeal and also to stave off too much feeling that I’m afraid could overcome me.

But I want tk thank everyone. Your presence, Patti’s space. It is such a gift.
