My brother, with his wife and daughter and several others, had the good fortune to have a brief private audience with HH the Dalai Lama a few years back. (My brother's wife in particular has long been involved with various NGOs and Amnesty Int'l over the years and has Tibetan friends here in Taiwan.) Having been a student of Buddhism for some 20 years now, I was glad that my first response was not jealousy at his getting to meet the Dalai Lama (though I can't deny a bit of envy!). I was happy for him to have that opportunity, because I think the experience would ultimately be more beneficial for him than myself. (You and many of my fellow readers surely understand the difficulties that can exist in sibling relationships and I've not always been the best sibling.)
For myself, I can say that the first and foremost reason I subscribed to your Substack was for many of the qualities that you share with the Dalai Lama--you are a kind, wise and sensible human being and it's comforting (in this crazy world) to be able to make more space for people like yourself. The warmth of good human feeling becomes increasingly important, so thank you for sharing that, Patti.
The picture of your kiss has touched my heart. How sweet and delicate gesture. And I have to say that sometimes I celebrate on purpose my non birthday...everyday is a miracle 🌄 🙏 thanks for sharing this, Patti. 💖

Wonderful photos.
Reminds me of the Buddhist saying - "Yesterday is a memory. Tomorrow is a mystery, and today is
a gift - which is why it is called the present". Good wishes though have no expiration date - plus it's
still his birth month. What a memorable photo, and what an honor.
Thank you for sharing this, Dear Patti! And happy unbirthday to you too! 😁🎂🎁🎉✨✨ See you soon in Nîmes 😉😘✨💖🎵
It is so refreshing and uplifting to see a tender kiss bestowed by you on The Dalai Lama, especially in the midst of the violence going on in the U.S.

Amen.
that sounds like a nice little european tour with excellent venues. Wish you safe journeys and good catering :)
Wow what an incredible photo with his holiness!! 😇🙏
Indeed, 6 July was the 14th Dalai Lama's birthday.
It could be said that every day is his birthday.
In Japan, where there is no freedom of the press like in the former Soviet Union, the Dalai Lama's birthday was hardly reported.
In these dark times, I hope the Dalai Lama continues to give us hope.
P.S.
The day before yesterday, I bought your album Easter in Asakusa at a like-new price.
As you know, the long-term depreciation of the yen has made it difficult for artists to perform in Japan.
What a shame that is.
