That ferris wheel in Vienna is wonderful. Is it the oldest in Europe? I went on it with my colleague, Antonella, and a handful of pupils on a school trip years ago.

That night in Seattle.... I never felt so fulfilled as I was when you spoke just like I craved Patti Smith would speak.

Thank you for not fucking up your life so we can continue our appreciation for your layer of strata in our culture

We are all connected - and your remark about optimism reminds me to trust and grin. The joy is always here. I send that smile and that joy to you.

Patti Smith, you were the first woman that I had genuine respect for. I was only 15 but because of you, every woman in my life had my respect, until one of us gave the other reasons to lose it.

Dunno what I'm getting at but you are at the foundation of my character as a man.

Thank you for being the first to show me women weren't my mom or teacher or toy or servant or nurse or competitor.

My loves have always been good loves.

Guess ya caught me on a good year in 1975.

Thanks for being in my world

Bless you Patti, and friends, - for bringing some beauty to people out here, in a time when dark shadows are creeping around the perimeters of civilization, humanity and Peace! All we have is each other and that is all we are worth. ✌️

I've never explored the wilderness abroad. I hope one day I will confront my anxiety over airports. I need to travel in order to abolish these fears. I've heard Vienna is a wonderful place for residents and tourists. I know Falco, the late '80s artist recorded a song called "Vienna Calling". The Ferris wheel is so monochromatic. The Third Man is like a vintage Hollywood film with rare qualities. I've seen Citizen Kane decades ago. Glastonbury seems like a weird gathering of boho teen and adolescent hipster flag wavers. It will never be Woodstock.

Fuji Rock was held in Naeba again this year, and Patti's performance in 2002 is legendary, with videos still available. A "Fuji Rocker- Fuji Rock attendee," who knew Patti at the time, wrote on social media this summer that he regretted that Japan has become a country capable of war since 2012, citing Patti's video.

Fuji Rock is modeled after the Glastonbury festival, with its anti-nuclear, anti-war and anti-racist light motifs, and is held every year for three days in the mountains of Naeba, with participants who have built up their stamina and saved their money for the festival enduring rain and intense heat throughout the year. The festival is therefore very memorable for the artists who participate.

Patti, thank you very much for your speech.
