That movie is stunning, haunting and absolutely incredible. And in the words of Joan of Arc to her interrogators who asked her in what language do the voices speak to you in: Better language than yours. 💜 🗡️

Oh my God, Jan. 6. What a much more profound memory of the date. Check out the book Joan: A Novel of Joan of Arc by Katherine Chen. It’s beautiful.

Two years ago I made a pilgrimage to Rouen. I stood in the square where she was burned, but could not bring myself to enter the church built on the site. The buildings encircling the square are the same. I wept with them. Thank you for your post. Some things transcend understanding.

Hi Patti if you've never read Mark Twain's Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc I highly recommend it! Mark Twain was a passionate champion of Joan of Arc and paints such a beautiful and loving portrait of her spiritual light and courage.

Oh I'm going thru a bout of rotator cuff tendonitis so haven't been so prompt in reading your stacks. How I missed Jeanne d'Arc's BD I'll never know, but I'm reading this today, loving the statuette of her that Jesse gave you and catching myself trying to look beyond to the left to see the other books on that shelf! Preparing to watch the film you so graciously included. She is one of my heroes. I would have at Least changed my profile photo but, as you, I've been prescribed rest. A test! ❤️

Thanks so much for giving us this, Patti. The Passion of Joan of Arc is one of the very few films that seem to be directly infused with the spirit, as though it had entered the silver nitrate of the film stock, maybe as an invisible ray from Falconetti's hypnotic eyes.

Violence against women -- Joan of Arc, even after all she did for France... And the The Malleus Maleficarum, Hammer of the Witches, spelled out how to make us suffer. No human gets here save through the body of a woman. Thank you for posting, Patti. I've been missing your video posts in Bev's kitchen or from behind your desk or anywhere! Brings such warmth, humor, education to us all.

The Passion of Joan or Arc is my favorite film. I thought her heart survived the burning 🔥. I didn't know that got tossed into the Sienne.
