Patti - not only are you an incredible writer, you are a top Librarian. I love hearing about books through you. You bring such interest to them. My mom was a Librarian and I miss her so much. Hi Patti, I started listening to this video when you first posted it, I only came back to it today and I am so glad I did. You are just a few years older than me, but our lives parrallel in many ways, like with Eisenhower as being the first president when I was a kid. I never lived at the Chelsea Hotel and was friends with William Burroughs, so that we don't have in common. I hear you and appreciate your take on what's happening from the white house and the shame. I think for like you said, for those of us that know, know, It's a collective consciousness of shame. We can't lose hope and celebrate the wins. Like those refusing to play at the Kennedy Center. Bravo for them.
I love Jean Genet. Reading his work opened my eyes to another completely different perspective of what it meant (for him) to be imprisioned. This was his home in a way. His people. Easier to relate to than what is in the outside world. His loves. I could feel the love he had. The beauty he made us see through his eyes. I will revisit the Theifs Journal again.
I have never read Emily Bronte, but will find a copy of Wuthering Heights. I will also check out a movie as well.
I am reading and enjoying your new book. I just started so I will say mire when I get further along. I remember you mentioning how much thought goes into every word and sentence, so I approach reading it with the awareness of your selections.

Season's Greetings, Patti! Your thoughts echo many of mine about the state of things, and I don't blame you at all feeling the need to bring your passport with you, we live in uncertain times. My heart cracks, but doesn't break. The holiday "dust" is settling after yesterday's festivities...I cooked my "flying pigs" for the family dinner (2 pork roasts with chicken wings) and we served various side dishes, and sweets, wine, tea, and good company! Today is very cold, a red sky at dawn, there is a snowstorm coming this afternoon, it's a good day to sit by the woodstove, read a book, and drink tea. We're seeing out another year, and welcoming the new year with hope for better times to come!
I love your Christmas card selling story and how the cards remind you of the ones from your childhood! I think it's really really lovely to give cards to people that don't expect it but who do things for you day in day out even if it's part of their job. Service staff get so little appreciation.
I read Wuthering Heights this year or it might have been late last year/winter. She was such a good writer/artist.. I have not actually read anything by Genet before.... I've put A thief's journal on my to read list!
