Thank you for sharing Patti. My heart goes out to you for the loss of these great loves in your life. It's wonderful that you can keep their spirit alive by sharing these moments with all of us. I really enjoyed the music tonight after a long day. Also, enjoying Bread of Angels.

Your performance in Ann Arbor, Mich last night was profound, inspiring, simply perfect. I was in the balcony singing happy birthday to Jimmy, as well as The People have power. Please come back to us again. We love you here. Can't wait to read another Patti Smith book.

I love “People have the Power” it is the perfect song for these times. You and Fred created still and will continue resonate throughout history when we face similar circumstances.

The grief and pain of death of our most beloved revisited on their/our favorite anniversaries. Be kind and easy on yourself.

Love is the greatest. Im old now but I have a, couple platonic gf's. I'm going to leave them my money so they have a nice place to live. It was fate that made you walk into that hot dog stand. Cherish every memory. Paul.

What struck me most in Patti Smith’s reflection is how honestly she holds both joy and grief in the same space. She talks about meeting Fred with such warmth that you can almost feel how alive that memory still is for her. And then, in the very next breath, she remembers losing Robert Mapplethorpe on that same date a loss that clearly never stopped hurting. There’s something deeply human in the way she accepts this mix of emotions, as if life’s happiest and hardest moments are always closer than we think. Her memories don’t feel distant or polished; they feel lived‑in, tender, and real. Even the songs she mentions seem like ways of keeping the people she loved close, long after they’re gone. What stays with me is the quiet strength in her voice, the way she honours both the love that shaped her and the sorrow that changed her. It’s a reminder that some dates stay with us forever because they hold the people who made our lives what they are.

I always love hearing the memories of how someone met their most beloved. The beginning of their story together. Your meeting with Fred was magical, when you just know this is "the one." He will always be with you.
