Thank you so much for this timely post, Patti. Unfortunately we live in a world where this painting and this poem are always timely. I shake my head in despair and wonder that human beings continue to do this to each other. Guernica, to me, is the greatest painting of the 20th century, capturing the essence of what Yoko Ono called the century that kills. And The Geometry Blinked Ruin Unimaginable is, along with Mummer Love, my favourite poem in Augeries of Innocence. It captures, as does the painting, the unspeakable, to use a word from the poem itself. Moving and devastating and much needed in the face of the world's horrors. You must have been feeling the pain yourself this afternoon, Patti. I'm so glad you reached out with these extraordinary works. We're all in this together.

This is Gaza in 2024.

Slaughter of the innocent is never justified.

Opposition to an act of genocide by any group (Hamas) or any act by the government of a nation state (Israel) is not racist or anti-Semitic, it is the reasonable human response to what is wrong unjust and evil.

Such acts breed only more of the same and a never-ending cycle of tragedy.

The perpetrators on all sides leave only a legacy of death and suffering for their children and grandchildren.
