Exquisite again. It was fascinating to learn from you that Leonardo's vineyard had been scientifically recreated from elements of his original plant stocks. What an amazing feat! Your photos are lovely. Thank you.
Thanks for being back full of energy. Oh, I really liked the part about the DNA (I think I made an unsconscious connection to certain "The Melting" chapters). Thanks for the "sighthearing" (sorry for this creation!), you continue to be an excellent tour guide. I've read "Year of the Monkey" this summer. To me, - I know it doesn't make any sense, I never do, - it felt like the most natural, direct writing you have done so far. I had the sensation of being within the moment. It was also the funniest. Right, keepin' an eye on "The Melting". Welcome back on Substack :)
Good morning from a sunny day in London. Everything is still except for the birds singing. This is the best time to listen to your wonderful descriptions of Leonardo and his grapes. Sad to hear of the deterioration of The Last Supper but happy to hear his brush strokes still shine through. Enjoy your journey, l look forward to Naples 🙏
Milan was our first stop in Italy....I was a humble student of art studying with a group of co-eds. I did not get to see these lovely things but now you have documented them for me. You and Michael Stipe take the greatest pics. I'm ever so grateful to experience it through you. Grazie
At the moment is grey and cold so it is particularly welcome to see and hear about your visit to Milan and to see the splendour of Leonardo’s ‘Last Supper’ and his colourful garden . I look forward to seeing the city of Naples through your eyes . Thank you ! ☀️
Im looking forward to your writings on Naples. I was swindled once in two separate attempts while there. They are so very poor. My ancestors are from the area. The came to America at the turn of the 20th century. I am lucky. Naples is certainly gritty and the driving chaotic!
Milan part 2
Amazing to see these things through your eyes and learn some history (I loved the story about Verdi's death from the previous post).

Dear Patti, I also was privileged to experience the Barenboim-Chereau-Scala Tristan, one of my peak moments. Here's what I wrote about it then in the blog I was keeping at the time: http://myownprivatevenice.blogspot.com/2009/02/tristan-la-scala-barenboim.html
I love your photo journal.
You continue to inspire me so much, Patti!
