I am pretty sure, just about positively certain, I know, of course, that I watched Captain Kangaroo read “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” several times among other titles- Green Eggs and Ham? 1961-1963? I watched the Captain every morning. Hello, Mr. Green Jeans! Dr. Seuss and Curious George are the first books I checked out from the library on my own, ages 4 and 5. They were my gateway drugs to a lifetime of reading. Thanks for this, Patti.

I’m still thinking about your readings from BOA in Philly on 12/1 and this time w/you is what my hurting soul needed tonight. Brings back sweet memories of reading Dr. Seuss to my three boys. I remember reading “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” & many other Seuss books to my boys. It’s out of print now.
Oh Patti, this made me feel so good. Just what the doctor ordered (ha, pun intended, Dr. Seuss!)! I was stressed and anxious at high noon Tuesday when I finally took some time and listened to your first 500 Hats clip. It was so soothing and calming and everything else good. The hat made me think of Peter Pan!! Such a wonderful story. Thank you for doing this.
I just want to say, thank you for always being a wonderful voice of reason and peace in this chaotic world. A dear friend passed away Friday and she was a great admirer of yours. If you could keep her in your thoughts, her name was Carol.
I taught Kindergarten for 30 years. And every year we would spend the first week of March celebrating Dr. Seuss. We would concentrate on a different story every day and make an art project from that story. We made little hats out of paper with a feather for this story for my kiddos to wear. Of course we would make green eggs and ham on one day as well! That was the best! Thanks for reading to us!
I was really enjoying your reading of 500 Hats and then you just disappeared from the screen. I hope that you’re ok. I presumed it was because of the storm and I had visions of your book being thrown up into the air and hats circling around your head blown by the powerful wind.

No, SF Bay Area- the East Bay. I loved watching Captain Kangaroo, and the books he read. He was my Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street.

My childhood Dr. Seuss book was "If I Ran the Zoo." If I ran the zoo, said young Gerald McGrew, I'd make a few changes - that's what I'd do.
