I was lucky to see you perform in NY with your daughter Jesse and I remember I gave her a drawing to give to you . It was an abstract visual to share my love and honour of you as an artist over these years . That night you sang my mother’s wedding song “ only fools rush in “ and I wept tears of joy .
I also wanted to say : there was an interview of you where you shared with the audience and said “ artists do your work “ and reminded us that sometimes people will love and celebrate and connect to your work and sometimes not . Either way just keep going . As an artist these words have stuck with me and I share them often with friend who are artist . A loving reminder of devotion to the Artistic process .
I am grateful for your book Just kids , where we are reminded to follow our heart and spirit and honour the loving connections we have in this journey of life . Your friendship and soul connection with Robert is beautiful . You remind us to cherish . I love M train . Your ability to weave the dream state into everyday life as you write . Is a gift . I am looking forward to reading your new book Bread of Angels . 💗 thank you Patti for all of the love and creativity you channel into this world . All of the wisdom . On your birthday I want to say thank you . I have always admired the way you honour those you love on their birthday . You capacity to remember all of these days ! I’m good at remembering family and friends but admired the way you honour artists and leaders . So I thought I can start by remembering your birthday 💗
From there I would go to the school library and trace my hands on book shelves in search of your poetry .I began to listen to your music and be taken on these journeys into other worlds through rhythm and poetry . Your voice potent . To this day one of my favourite songs of all time is Gloria . No matter where I am in life this song transcends me . I often sing it with my mom and we rock out together . I began writing in high school as a way to process pain . It was an accessible art form , so easy to carry my journal and pencil to create . But I was yet to connect to other poets who would inspire me on my journey . To this day You , Virginia Woolf and Bianca Casady are some of my favourite writers . Having heroes and to be inspired in life is a gift . You are a gift Patti
Dear Patti . Happy Birthday to you . I want to take a moment to tell you on your birthday that you are truly one of my heroes in life . I look up to you and am inspired by you every day . I had a girlfriend show me a picture of you on the album horses that Robert took of you when i was about 19 years old. I remember seeing this picture of you was pivotal . It was so potent to my spirit . Your presence in this photo . Like I was connecting to something that would be very important to me ( the medicine and teachings of your art, presence and spirit ) and it was true . Soon after I connected to the book Please Kill me . And I remember soaking in your words here and being mesmerized by the history of this punk art scene , inspired .
Wishing you a wonderful 80th year of life.....may it keep you in good health, make you happy and allow you to pursue your passions and spread your wise words.
