Sorry to hear about the garden space. You are right: big parks are good, but smaller green spaces are vital, for relief from the endless blocks of concrete and asphalt. There is a community garden a few blocks from my apartment where I can go sit under a cedar tree and watch all of the creeping, crawling, and flying things tend--and sometimes poach!--the garden patches people work all spring and summer. I'd hate to lose it, but it is city-owned and -protected land so should last even as population density increases. Green space is one of the things Seattle gets right from time to time; I wish New York could take a few hints.
