Thank you so much for posting, as always! I was considering coming to the London concert but this summer has been really exhausting (still ongoing) and I'm a little broke as well at the moment. Today it's already the first day of October and the world isn't any happier at all. So saddening. Always have to remind myself that I'm lucky enough to live in a part of the world that is ok for now and to be thankful for all the good things that have happened in my life so far.
Thank you for the good wishes and the same back to you and everybody here too!
Thank you everyone and Patti Smith for sharing your words. Reading about all of your visions of beauty and sorrow and honoring the world and the people in it and your stories makes me feel much better and grounded. Until next time, the readers, until next time, the Notebook.
Oh I saw your post on Instagram about this concert and wanted to comment on it (but just forgot). It must have been a really extraordinary experience to perform in such a mighty cathedral! I was in Berlin some years ago, attending your ”An Evening of Words and Music” (or whatever it was called) and it really was something special and somewhat absurd, too, to dance to your music near the altar and drink beer, an experience I’ll never forget. (Here in Finland we do not organize such concerts in churches.) I’m lazy and terrible at using social media - and this substack too - as I don’t really understand why I should know what everybody is doing or thinking all the time. I prefer doing something else. Anyways, even though I’m very bad at using social media, I just wanted to say that I appreciate your work and your music brings me joy and I listen to it regularly. And I’m sending you flowers and butterflies and birds and good wishes and hope you are happy and doing well. ❤️( I’m quite happy in my life right now, a guilty pleasure as the world is in a very bad state.)
Your feeling of the world resonates deeply over here. Embrace the joy in your work. It gives others the nudge to find that spark. The truth is, you heal us as you are being that joyful one. Your humility, realness and grace shine brightly. Our world needs this. Sending much love your way.
I love hearing you talk about the Alhambra, and I wish I were there to hear your concert. And in the midst of a partial eclipse, no less. I stayed with my family in an apartment right outside the walls of the Alhambra in February of 2020. I remember standing in line to enter in the morning, and there being this strange feeling in the air...because we had all been hearing about this mysterious "cornonovirus" in Italy but there were no reports of it in Spain yet. Immediately after we left Seville, the news began to report that a large contingent of soccer fans had traveled from Italy to Seville by plane in the previous days, and many of them had tested positive. What a strange time that was, and how distant it now seems in memory. Whenever I think of it, I remember to be overjoyed that we are able to gather, hear music, and eat together.
astonishing bringing together all the thoughts of whom has spoken, sang, gifted the cathedral with their presence and experiences of the universe
What a magnificent cathedral, words can't express

Hello
That picture reminds of the cupola
I'm so grateful tonight for this piece of tender sharing. Thank you Patti, and wishing you well in return

Patty, I think it must have rained right at the end of your concert.

Something happened with your voice there?
