A little levity with Sam Shepard
Today is Sam Shepard’s birthday. It’s going to be a long haul tonight so I am offering five minutes of fun with my old pal. It was shot by Steven Sebring for his documentary Dream of Life. I found the clip on line with Spanish subtitles which Sam would have gotten a kick out of.
I met Sam when I was twenty-three and we remained friends for the rest of his life. Take a walk today, get some air, and try to clear your mind of the noise of unwanted voices. And maybe watch our little session, it’s always good to laugh.
When I woke up this morning, I played People Have the Power followed by Chimes of Freedom hoping to send some positive energy to your nation. You're right. It's going to be a long, anxious night. Your post came at a great time, bringing the joy of two friends enjoying each other's company and a much-needed smile. Let's hope we're still smiling a couple of days from now. Happy birthday, Sam. I found this quote from him.
'Democracy's a fragile thing. You have to take care of democracy. As soon as you stop being responsible to it and allow it to turn into scare tactics, it's no longer democracy, is it? It's something else. It may be an inch away from totalitarianism.'
